CNBC Mad Money host, Jim Cramer, said this morning that if Hillary Clinton is elected, it will be the end of coal production in the United States.
Democrat candidate for Kentucky governor, Jack Conway, has referred to Clinton as “the next president of the United States.” However, perhaps because of Hillary’s e-mail scandal, Conway now simply says he will support the Democrat nominee, regardless of who wins the primary. That means Conway would vote for Bernie Sanders, who supports eliminating subsidies to coal and a tax on carbon, if he becomes the nominee. Or he’d be happy to support Martin O’Malley whose administration got strong support from environmentalists to reduce coal plants.
It is clear that electing Conway will be catastrophic for Kentucky’s coal industry.

Due to overwhelming failure, it was revealed the Obama administration has ended its Syrian rebel program, which cost $500 million and was intended to “train and equip Syrian rebels”:
The Obama administration has ended the Pentagon’s $500 million program to train and equip Syrian rebels, administration officials said on Friday, in an acknowledgment that the beleaguered program had failed to produce any kind of ground combat forces capable of taking on the Islamic State in Syria.

The change makes official what those in the Pentagon and elsewhere in the administration have been saying for several weeks would most likely happen, particularly in the wake of revelations that the program at one point last month had only “four or five” trainees in the fight in Syria – a far cry from the plan formally started in December to prepare as many as 5,400 fighters this year, and 15,000 over the next three years.
The Associated Press reported the program “has been beset by a series of embarrassing setbacks”:
The $500 million training program has been beset by a series of embarrassing setbacks. The first group of trainees largely disbanded soon after they were sent into combat; some were captured or killed, while others fled. A second class yielded only a small number of new fighters, drawing criticism from U.S. lawmakers who condemned the program as a joke and a failure.
As the nation’s top diplomat, Hillary Clinton supported the training and equipping of certain Syrian rebels, even writing about it in her memoir, Hard Choices:
As secretary of state, Hillary Clinton advocated early on for training and equipping moderate Syrian rebels to help fight Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria. …
Clinton wrote extensively about her advocacy for a train-and-equip program in her 2014 memoir, “Hard Choices.” “There are real risks to such an approach,” she said in the book, citing the Afghan rebels the U.S., Saudi Arabia and Pakistan armed during the Soviet-Afghan War in the 1980s who later formed al Qaeda.
“But if rebels could be vetted and trained effectively, it would be helpful in a number of ways. First, even a relatively small group might be able to give a big psychological boost to the opposition and convince Assad’s backers to consider a political solution,” she wrote.
This is yet another example of Hillary Clinton’s failed tenure as Secretary of State.
Katie McGinty hasn’t had the best track record on the issues thus far in her senate campaign. She ducked the Iran deal for as long as possible, and ended up on the opposite side of her campaign chair, former Gov. Ed Rendell, on TPP.
Now she’s ramping up her attacks on Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, who she’s losing to by 20 points in the latest poll, echoing national Democrat talking points to attack him on gun control.
But Philadelphia Magazine columnist Joel Mathis regretfully informs McGinty “that dog just won’t hunt”:
I like McGinty. But this is a silly criticism. And one that might prevent the kind of action she says she wants…
…Criticizing Toomey on the gun issue might make smart politics. It does nothing to solve the gun issue. My recommendation to Dems? Move on.
So, which issue will be the source of McGinty’s next gaffe?
On Thursday, at a Kentucky Coal Association candidate forum Jack Conway tried to woo the crowd in part by telling them, “I do believe in regulation.”
This isn’t a surprise. Conway has received campaign contributions from major anti-coal activists like the Sierra Club, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who has said “coal makes us sick.” Which is funny, considering the moderator was KCA president Bill Bissett who has raised concerns in the past about candidates who have connections to Harry Reid and President Obama.
And he is willing to support whomever wins the Democrat presidential nomination. That means Conway committed to vote for Bernie Sanders, who supports eliminating subsidies to coal and a tax on carbon, if he becomes the nominee. Or he’d be happy to support Martin O’Malley whose administration got strong support from environmentalists to reduce coal plants.
With Bernie Sanders surging, Hillary Clinton is running scared and getting desperate. Last night, announced her plans to “crack down” on Wall Street, which when you look at the numbers, is basically the equivalent of letting the inmates run the prison. [Read more…]
