In a stunningly arrogant declaration, the Clinton campaign is telling reporters they have enough superdelegates to make up one-fifth of the delegates needed to lock up the nomination. Bloomberg reports:
At the Democratic National Committee meeting in Minneapolis, where she will speak Friday, senior Clinton campaign officials are claiming that she has already secured one-fifth of the pledges needed to win the Democratic presidential nomination. They come from current and former elected officials, committee officeholders, and other party dignitaries.
It’s a shift from a campaign that took great pains to pretend they weren’t greasing the skids for a clean Clinton nomination. The DNC has limited the number of presidential debates, much to the chagrin of Clinton’s primary rivals, in an attempt to limit exposure for said Clinton rivals.
The DNC also set up a joint fundraising agreement with the Clinton campaign that enables both “to conduct events and other fundraising activities together that will generate money for both entities.” No other Democratic candidate has such an agreement.
After this morning’s announcement, the message from Clinton camp is clear: why bother holding a primary election at all?
