McGinty’s In: PA Dems Will Be Forced To Choose Between Two (Political) Losers

Gov. Tom Wolf’s chief of staff, Katie McGinty, is resigning her $168,000 per year taxpayer-funded job to run for Senate against Congressman Joe Sestak, creating what’s sure to be a brutal Democratic Primary.

“Pennsylvania Democrat Katie McGinty will resign her position as chief of staff to Governor Tom Wolf on Thursday in preparation to run for the United States Senate, two sources with direct knowledge of the situation tell National Journal.

“But her decision to resign her high-profile job after only seven months all but guarantees a Senate campaign, sources added.”

Not only will McGinty be facing a barrage of attacks from the $2.1 million war chest of fellow Democrat Sestak, she will also face charges of putting her political ambitions ahead of the people of Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania is in the midst of a budget crisis—the Commonwealth has been operating without a budget since June 30, when the last fiscal year’s budget expired. As Gov. Wolf’s chief of staff, McGinty has been responsible for addressing the crisis.

With her resignation, McGinty—who got trounced in her campaign for governor in 2014—is making clear that her priorities lie with her own political career instead of what’s best for Pennsylvanians.
