Last night, Clinton urged a crowd of environmentalists to “dare greatly and lead boldly,” so she doesn’t have to.
CNN, ABC, MSNBC, Politico, The Washington Post, and countless other publications are all pointing out that Hillary Clinton gave yet another speech on energy and the environmental issues, and failed to clarify her stance, let alone even mention, the Keystone XL pipeline.
Of course, we now know the position of every other Washington politician on Keystone. We know where every Senator stands, every House member stands, and where potential 2016 rivals, including Bernie Sanders, Jim Webb, Martin O’Malley, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren all stand.
Even after telling an Iowa crowd that not answering tough questions should be “disqualifying,” Clinton, whose State Department oversaw permitting and environmental studies for the pipeline, still refuses to take a position.
And CNN notes that while Clinton said she doesn’t want to comment on an issue currently affecting her successor, the Keystone XL pipeline appears to be the only issue she refuses to comment on:
The former secretary of state has repeatedly dodged the Keystone question and gave the issue zero mentions in her 2014 memoir. Clinton usually tells interested audiences — usually groups in Canada or at environmental events — that she doesn’t want to comment on an issue currently in the hands of her successor, Secretary of State John Kerry.
But Keystone appears to be one of the only issues where Clinton follows that rule. The former first lady regularly comments on other issues currently on Kerry’s plate, like Syria, the ongoing conflict with ISIS and talk over nuclear weapons with Iran.
