Mark Begich Is A Liar: TV Ads Edition

During last night’s Alaska Senate debate, Mark Begich lied to voters about his 2008 campaign against Republican Ted Stevens. “I didn’t run attack ads,” Begich claimed. He tried to distinguish his ads from outside groups, saying, “Oh, I’m telling you, the campaign commercials I paid for, the ones that I was involved in, we talked about the record.”

Really. Here’s a 2008 Begich ad that showcases people saying Stevens “let us all down.” (Please note Begich saying “I’m Mark Begich, and I approve this message.”)

It’s pretty safe to say any ad that attacks Stevens’ character and uses the phrase “The saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire” without any facts to substantiate the innuendo is probably an attack ad.
