Hawaii Dem Skips Veterans Hearing, Goes Surfing

Sometimes you just gotta surf, man.

At least that seems to be Hawaii Democrat Tulsi Gabbard approach to life. She went surfing with Yahoo! News’ Chris Moody in a story that made a splash (nailed it!) in DC circles:

As gently crashing waves break the morning stillness, the congresswoman stands straight and salutes the tip of the glowing sun as it rises into the clouds and flashes a light upon the water.

The problem with this poetic scene is that while Tulsi was achieving zen on the Oahu beach, her colleagues were in Washington, DC, doing their jobs.

The Honolulu Civil Beat is reporting that during her profile interview, the House Veterans Affairs committee was meeting to discuss ways to address the Veterans Affairs healthcare crisis:

Despite telling Civil Beat at the time she missed the hearing because she was delayed in another meeting, Gabbard’s staff acknowledged last week that she was instead tied up with a Yahoo News reporter in Waikiki where she was surfing for a video the news outlet was shooting.

To be fair to Tulsi, the Yahoo! story has done wonders for her image and those veterans on waiting lists for healthcare only fought and sacrificed to protect our nation.
