Thanks Mark Begich! Alaskans Face “Significant Rate Hike” Under ObamaCare

Don’t expect to see Mark Begich touting this fact anytime soon: Alaskans buying mandated insurance under ObamaCare will see a “significant rate hike” in 2015.

Alaskans who buy health insurance on the Affordable Care Act marketplace will see a significant rate hike for next year. The state Division of Insurance says consumers can expect to pay an increase of more than 30 percent on average for coverage. Two insurers offer individual plans on the marketplace – Premera Alaska and Moda. Premera’s plans will increase the most – an average of 37 percent.

Begich touted claims that Alaskans “would see among the largest insurance premium reductions” under ObamaCare in 2009.

Alaskans, who currently pay the highest health insurance costs in the nation for premiums purchased by individuals, would see among the largest insurance premium reductions, under the national health insurance reform bill pending in the U.S. Senate, according to a just-released congressional study. U.S. Sen. Mark Begich welcomed the study results, saying the high cost of health insurance premiums is one of the major complaints he hears from Alaskans in the discussion of health reform.
