Braley Skips Veterans Affairs Meeting For D.C. Fundraisers

Just yesterday, the Cedar Rapids Gazette reported Bruce Braley has missed 78% of Veterans Affairs committee meetings.

Today, the Des Moines Register is reporting that Braley chose to attend 3 fundraisers on a day he missed a committee hearing. The hearing addressed the lack of oversight in the VA—an issue that has been the focus of national attention after systemic problems in patient care were exposed earlier this year.

Braley’s defenders claim it’s wrong to “try to inject partisan politics into veterans issues,” but it seems they’re able to overlook Braley’s brazenly political choice to rake in cash instead of attending a hearing to address problems in the VA administration.

The worst part? Braley’s fundraisers were in D.C., just blocks from where the Veterans Affairs committee hearing was taking place, one just steps from the Capitol at a high-end oyster restaurant favored by lobbyists.
