In Ohio, a primary is shaping up that is a race to the left. Ted Strickland and P.G. Sittenfeld are trying to outdo one another when it comes to taking the “progressive” mantle.
This week, Sittenfeld signed the “contract with America” that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Senator Elizabeth Warren—two of the Party’s most liberal voices—are promoting.
At an event in Columbus yesterday, Sittenfeld said:
“People are hungry for a progressive agenda,” Sittenfeld said. “The country doesn’t need two Republican parties.”
Later, he got nods from the crowd by saying, “Damn right I’m offering a progressive agenda — that’ll get people to the polls.”
Strickland, on the other hand, has been meeting with editorial boards to promote how “progressive” he is. This week, he told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he previously worked for the “very progressive” Center for American Progress:
It’s unclear who will win this race to be the most out of touch Democrat in Ohio, but it’s looking neck-and-neck.
