American Crossroads Statement on Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – American Crossroads today released the statement below on today’s jobs report. Please credit the statement to Steven Law, president and CEO of American Crossroads and former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor:

Nearly 3.4 million students will earn a college degree this year, yet President Obama’s economy created only 96,000 jobs this month – not nearly enough to absorb all the new entrants into the workforce. We are on track for record levels of unemployment among young people, and after four years it is clear that President Obama’s policies are not working – instead of creating jobs, he has created debt, and instead of new businesses the government has created new regulations. To get the economy moving and generate jobs for all of these new college graduates, we need a new approach that cuts the debt, stabilizes taxes, cuts regulations and increases energy production.”

The U.S. Department of Labor reported today that U.S. employers added 96,000 jobs in August, and reports that 41,000 fewer jobs were created in July and June than first estimated. Only 139,000 jobs have been created per month in 2012. Meanwhile, according to projections from the National Center for Education Statistics, some 3.4 million students will graduate with associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in 2012.
