Elizabeth Warren Confesses Fourth Quarter Campaign Haul Bagged on Wall Street

Crossroads calls on Warren to reject funds from Wall Street which increased her fundraising haul

WASHINGTON – With the news today of Professor Elizabeth Warren’s fourth quarter fundraising total, American Crossroads again called on Warren to end her hypocrisy and reject campaign funds raised on Wall Street.  In the release today from her campaign about the fundraising total, Warren blasted “Wall street millions” in politics yet just last week she admitted raising funds from Wall Street.

At a Boston town hall meeting on January 3rd an audience member asked Warren about the source of her campaign funds, Professor Elizabeth Warren confirmed her pattern of Wall Street hypocrisy when she confessed to accepting political cash from Wall Street despite her repeated cries against “Wall Street money” in politics.  Professor Warren admitted:

“…I do have donors on Wall Street…”  (Robert Rizzuto, “Democratic U.S. Senate Challenger Elizabeth Warren Comes Out Swinging at Dorchester Town Hall Discussion,” The Springfield Republican, 01/03/2012)

“As Professor Warren gloats about her campaign haul, perhaps she should also come clean with Massachusetts voters about her abject hypocrisy in bagging funds on Wall Street,” said American Crossroads President and CEO Steven Law.  “Warren decries campaign cash from Wall Street while simultaneously asking them to line up with her campaign.  It’s the height of hypocrisy, and Professor Warren should refund any Wall Street contributions and at the same time ask the Wall Street-backed DSCC to stop supporting her campaign.”

Warren has previously refused to reject the financial support of the Wall Street-fueled Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) despite her longstanding opposition to “Wall Street cash” in politics.

Professor Elizabeth Warren’s Pattern of Wall Street Hypocrisy

Attack Wall Street Executives Before Going on a “Charm Offensive” with Them to Land a Job

According To The New York Times, Warren’s “Charm Offensive” Included Meetings With The CEOs Of JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley And Others. “Elizabeth Warren’s charm campaign made a stop in enemy territory on Wednesday. Ms. Warren, the Obama administration official who is overseeing the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, brought her calls for tough regulation to the Chamber of Commerce, a ferocious opponent of regulation – and the bureau itself. But you wouldn’t know from her remarks that she had stepped into the lion’s den. Ms. Warren, in a speech to the chamber’s Capital Markets Summit on Wednesday morning, trod lightly on the bureau’s plans to regulate Wall Street. She instead played to her audience, saying the bureau would ease some burdensome regulations.” (Ben Protess, “Warren Courts Her Top Critics,” The New York Times’s “Dealbook” Blog, http://dealbook.nytimes.com/, Posted 3/31/11)

  • “Ms. Warren’s charm offensive comes as the deadline approaches for President Obama to name an official director of the bureau – a spot that many consumer advocates want her to fill. Ms. Warren’s visit to the chamber — one of the financial industry’s top cheerleaders and lobbying shops — is her latest olive branch to fierce critics who stand in the way of her nabbing the job. Ms. Warren’s calendar this year has been jam-packed with meetings on Wall Street. She has met with the chief executive of every major Wall Street bank, including Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, Vikram S. Pandit of Citigroup and James P. Gorman of Morgan Stanley. Her industry outreach included talks with dozens of community bankers, too, and meetings with top credit card executives like Ajay Banga, the president and chief executive of MasterCard.” (Ben Protess, “Warren Courts Her Top Critics,” The New York Times’s “Dealbook” Blog, http://dealbook.nytimes.com/, Posted 3/31/11)

Blast Wall Street Funds in Politics Yet Refuse to Reject Support and Cash from the Wall Street-Backed DSCC

Elizabeth Warren Bashes Wall Street and Takes Millions of Dollars of Donations on Her Behalf.  “The Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee, which is helping the Harvard Professor, has taken over $40 million from Wall Street during the last 7 years according to records from OpenSecrets.org.  In fact, Wall Street is the biggest contributors to them.  They beat lawyers and labor union.  Just during this election season the DSCC has already received $1.5 million from Wall Street.  If Lizzy Warden is truly opposed to Wall Street money, then shouldn’t she reject the DSCC’s money?  Otherwise she is just using the DSCC to funnel in Wall Street money.” (Holly Robichaud, “Wall Street Money for Warren,” Boston Herald, 1/6/11)

Decry Wall Street Cash in Campaigns Before Openly Accepting Money from Wall Street into Her Own Campaign’s Coffers
