The New York Times reported this morning that DNC Vice Chairwoman Tulsi Gabbard has been disinvited from tomorrow night’s Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas because of Gabbard’s public push for more debates:
Ms. Gabbard confirmed on Sunday that her chief of staff received a message last Tuesday from the chief of staff to Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairwoman of the national committee, about her attendance at the debate. A day earlier, Ms. Gabbard had appeared on MSNBC and said there should be an increase beyond the current six sanctioned debates.
Gabbard, a congresswoman from Hawaii, slammed Wasserman Schultz for the “unvitation” and described it as juvenile behavior:
“When I first came to Washington, one of the things that I was disappointed about was there’s a lot of immaturity and petty gamesmanship that goes on, and it kind of reminds me of how high school teenagers act,” Ms. Gabbard said in a telephone interview on Sunday night.
Gabbard isn’t the only one calling for more debates, however. Fellow vice chair and former mayor of Minneapolis, R.T. Rybak, has joined her, along with many others in early states.
An anonymous source slammed Gabbard for “trying to publicly divide the D.N.C. leadership.”
Gabbard shot back: “All of our candidates agree with my position.”
