Two Democrats who helped run Hillary Clinton’s previous campaigns are giving unsolicited advice and trying to shape Clinton’s campaign from the sidelines.
First, Terry McAuliffe told Fortune magazine that Clinton should “loosen up” and that people want to see someone who’s having fun on the campaign trail:
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who chaired Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, would like to see the former Secretary of State loosen up a bit on the campaign trail as she makes her second bid.
“I do think it’s actually important,” McAuliffe told Fortune editor Alan Murray on Tuesday at the Brainstorm Tech conference in Austin. “People want to see people having fun at what they’re doing.”
Then, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has repeatedly refused to endorse Clinton (whose Senate campaign he ran in 2000), announced he’s hosting a presidential forum on the topic of income inequality in Iowa. That topic is one he often cites when asked about withholding his endorsement of Clinton.
Mayor de Blasio will host a bipartisan presidential forum on income inequality in a place that will put him on a national stage — the first caucus state of Iowa, multiple sources told The Post.
The forum, slated for Simpson College near Des Moines later this fall, could serve as a boon to the Democratic opponents of former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton — who have pushed for more debates than the six currently scheduled.
Representatives from Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley’s camps have both indicated they plan to attend, but Clinton’s campaign hasn’t responded yet.
As Clinton’s campaign continues to falter, here’s hoping more and more Clinton alums come out of the woodwork to offer their two cents.
